Keihoku is a countryside area in Kyoto known for timber production, having long supplied wood to the capital. For a newly renovated accommodation managed by ROOTS, my team and I were asked to create a lamp and brand identity that reflected the local context and atmosphere.
Our task was to develop a concept that could express Keihoku's slow pace of life while fitting the accommodation's brand. The design direction was inspired by the movie WOODJOB!, especially its idea of treasuring small moments in everyday life.
I was in charge of concept development, sketches, lamp design and 3D modelling. We explored the living mode and atmosphere of Keihoku, then translated those qualities into both the lamp design and the brand language. We focused on creating a calm, grounded experience that connected the space to its local timber culture.
KOKAGE reflects Keihoku's identity and the feeling of slow life. It helped shape the accommodation into a space that feels more rooted in place and more memorable for visitors.
